Questions & Answers

After establishing a pmshell session using their Tripp Lite Console Server, a user may exit a pmshell session to a port by typing "~." Users connecting using OpenSSH-based terminals (most Mac and Linux computers) will need to use two tildes "~~.". Note: If the tilde character is printing to the screen, the key may be getting held down too long. When this command is executed properly, the tilde and period characters will not print to the screen and the user will be returned to the Console Server prompt. Please see section 15.2.1 of the manual for more details on pmshell commands here For more details on pmshell commands, please see section 15.2.1 of the manual here.

By default, Port 1 is configured for Local Console Mode, which allows access to the terminal used to configure the console server. To allow general serial access to a connected device, set Port 1 to Console Server Mode. For more details on how to configure a Tripp Lite Console Server’s serial ports, please review Section 4.1 of the owners manual.

Tripp Lite B094 and B095 console servers with firmware version 3.11 and above can report their serial number remotely. As of this writing, B096 console servers do not report their serial number remotely. Please see below for two methods of obtaining a console server serial number remotely. Method 1: Web GUI 1) Access the console server using a web browser and an HTTPS connection (HTTP is disabled by default). 2) Click “Status: Support Report”. 3) Scroll down to the “Feature Set” section and the serial number will be listed if the console server supports this feature. Method 2: CLI 1) Access the console server’s CLI via any of the supported and enabled methods (Telnet, SSH, etc.). 2) Type “sudo showserial” and the console server will return the serial number or “No serial number information available” if the console server does not support this feature. Note: If logged in as the root user, omit “sudo” from the command.
